ABOUT AWAKEN WISCONSIN
We could never have imagined 11 years ago that we would be where we are today. It was once just a dream to be an inspirational model for other communities and that dream is now a reality.
Awaken has expanded into Green Bay, Wisconsin and we are proud to announce that we are now a national organization. The Wisconsin site serves as a center for outreach, life skills groups, jail outreach and many more services to come.
In our first year here in Green Bay, Wisconsin, we have had the privilege of impacting 58 women and girls in our community. This next year we will continue to build and strengthen our work in Brown County and look forward to seeing God heal and restore more women and children across our nation.
At the Center, our participants can speak with an advocate regarding resources in our community and utilize our facilities: from grabbing food and beverages that are readily available, visiting our coffee bar, to even simply relaxing on the couch. During specific time periods, our facility also offers a business center and a private shower available to anyone in need. Our heart is to meet our participants where they are at no matter the situation. If the need is beyond our scope, we assure a warm handoff to a community partner who is already engaged and active in that specific role.
The foundation of our Life Skills Groups is relationship; true impact comes with building trust and rapport. Our Life Skills Groups are offered a couple times a week. Through these groups we address topics such as grounding techniques, art therapy, holistic yoga practice, and numerous other psycho-educational classes. Prior to group, we serve a homemade meal, usually provided by one of our volunteers from our meals team. This allows us to build community and provides an optimal setting for open conversations.
Our Outreach Coordinator serves as an advocate in the Brown County Jail to help connect our participants to needed resources, aid in developing a plan for re-entry upon release, providing possible transportation from the jail to a program, supplying an emergency pack full of hygiene products upon release, and–most importantly–the ability to establish community while incarcerated.
Our team is passionate and committed to ending human trafficking and supporting its survivors. With a diverse set of skills and experiences, we work together to raise awareness, advocate for change, and provide direct services to those in need.
